Wij Oui We plant!
Laure Prouvost + Singing Molenbeek
A singing parade, a shouting plant seller and a living sculpture transform the city into a communal garden.
With her project Ouigrow, artist Laure Prouvost wants to make paved urban areas and vulnerable neighbourhoods greener - from Molenbeek and Monaco to Los Angeles. Ouigrow connects art with ecology and germinated in her studio in Molenbeek.
For MolenFest 2025, Ouigrow plans the three-part intervention Wij Oui We plant! around conviviality, caring for plants and the poetic reclaiming of public space. Neighbourhood residents, children and local partners come together to regreen Molenbeek and reinvigorate the public space with art and nature. A plant seller cycles through the quartier, hawking his wares through loudspeakers. Anyone who buys a plant gets a second one for free: to give away, or to plant together. A choir accompanies the Singing Molenbeek flower bike. At significant moments, like the purchase or exchange of a plant, the choir pipes up, inspired by the cries of market vendors. The third part of the intervention part focuses on the greening of a vacant lot near the Porte de Flandre. During a moment of celebration, the purchased plants are planted around a wood sculpture.
